4. CONSTRUCITON

 

This machine is composed of following principal Components:steaming kettle,feeding mechanism,pressing cage,worn shaft(including choke mechanism)and priving mechanism.

1.Steaming kettle:

The steaming kettle of this machine,similar to general used vertical type auxiliary kettle,is a vertical type,3-stage one. It is installed on the brackets of machines base,and its driving mechanism is included in whole driving system.the temperature and water content of the above mentioned oil bearing seeds can be effectively up to the requirements of pressing by the steaming kettle.

2 Feeding mechanism

   The working part of feeding mechanism is located between the outlet of steaming kettle and the inlet of worn shaft.It consists of shaft feeder(with screwed foils at its lower end)and

 

downspout.At the inlet of downspout,there is fitted a rotating type control valve which is

intended for controlling the dropping amount.under the control valve,there is mounted a feed hopper from which the droping conditions can be observed and the heated flakes can be obtained for sampling and testing.the driving of shaft of feeder is illustrated in Fig 2.

 

2. Pressing cage and worn shaft:

 

Pressing cage and worm shaft are principal working components of this machine.The heated flakes dropped from feeding mechanism are continuously entering into the space between pressing cage and worn shaft(named” pressing chamber”).Due to the rotation of worn shaft and the fact that the pressing chamber is becoming gradually narrowed,the heated flakes are pressed by very high pressure and the great mass of oil is pressed out,then flowing out through the gaps between the cage bars.

The pressing worms on the worm shaft are not continuous.Between them there aret fitted intermediate collars(Fig 3)In the pressing cage,there mounted knife bars(Fig 5),The teeth of which is pointed at the interruption of pressing worn(the rotation of worm shaft will not be blocked),So that the rotation of cake stuck with the worm shaft will be avoided and the cake can be pushed forward,the continuous pressing process thus guaranteed.

    At cake outlet end of the worn shaft,there if fitted a choke mechanism(Fig 6)for adjusting the cake thickness.A coupling connects the cake outlet end of the worm shaft withe the output shaft of the speed reduction box of this machine.

   The worm shaft drives the shaft of foots screw conveyor at the bottom of this machine.

 

3. Driving system:

 

The driving system of this machineries showed in Fig.2 .The electric motor drives the shaft 2 through V-belts.The shafts 2 drives the shaft 3 through a pair of bevel gears;The shaft 3,the worm shaft 7 through a pair of helical gears;the worm shaft 7,the shaft of foots screw conveyor 8 through chain wheel and roller chain.

The shaft 2 also drives the shaft 4 through flat belts:the shaft 4,the stirrer shaft 5 through a pair of bevel gears;the shaft 5,the shaft of feeder 6 through Vee-belts.

The R.P.M. of each shaft is illustrated in Fig 2.

 

 

 

5. ADJUSTMENT AND OPERATION

 

1. Before putting the machine into running,the following adjustments must first be made:

 

a. The adjustment of clearance between cage bars:

 

 

The clearance between cage bars is adjusted by adopting spacers in proper thickness.The thickness of spacers can be choised according to the kind of oil seed,technological  requirements in operation,the wear condition of bars and etc.In general,when the new cage bars are used for prepressing rape seed,ground nut kernel,cottonseed or sunflower seed,the thickness of spacers are recommended as follows

When the cage bards are gradually worn,the spacers should be properly thinned.the clearance between cage bars should be thus adjusted that oil can be pressed as much as possible and the foots should be in a small amount .

 

B. Adjustment of cake thickness(Fig.6.)

 

In adjusting ,face to the rotation direction of the worm shaft(Fig.1)and rotate the adjusting tray in the clockwise direction,the conic choke is gradually coming farther from the split discharge collar. The cake thickness is getting increased.On the contrary,the outer surface of the choke is coming near the inner surface of the split discharge collar,the cake thickness is becoming decreased.when the cake is  adjusted too thick,the pressure in the pressing cage is smaller and pre-pressed oil is in small amount .when the cake is adjusted too thin,the choke is almost plugged up the cake outlet and the machine will be a damage.In normal operation ,the cake thickness is about 10mm.Owing to the gradual wear and tear of the choke and split dicharge collar,a regular adjustment of the cake thickness should also be made by rotating the setting wheel .In operation ,the machine can be stopped for a short while to adjust the cake thickness in a manner of rotating the setting wheel by a special tool.Sometimes the pressed cake is in the shape of continuous band(in processing groundnut kernel),It can be interrupted by breaking bar 5(Fig .6.

 

C.After completion of installation the machine,the gear box should be filled with 30-40 liters of mechanical oil GB443-64,HJ30.All grease cups and oil holes should be filled with sufficient proper lubricants.The adoptable lubricants are listed in the following table:

The specification of the above mentioned lubricants are illustrated in the remarks which listed after the operation instructions.

2.Operation:

 

 

 

 

A. Starting

 

Rotate the main pulley manually and ensure that not a jar to be felt with all its running parts.Then,let the machine run idly for haft an hour and check various parts for any abnormal phenomena.Also ensure that the machine is going without any abnormal vibration and no running gear sounds irregularly.Check the steam pipe for any leakage and the safety valve to see whether the steam will come out when the stem pressure reaches more than pre-set valve.Then make sure that the pointer on the pressure gauge is adroit and instantaneously responsive.

 

Now open the steam vent-off valve of the steam trap on the kettle.Then open the steam inlet valve to let the steam go through the jacket of the kettle.When all the condensed water in the kettle jacket have been driven off,Gradually turn down the vent off valve of the steam trap.Let the exhaust steam go through the steam trap in order to let the temperature of the kettle go up.

 

Now transfer the pre-cooked flakes(with moisture content around 3-4% and a temperature of about 105°Cfrom the auxiliary kettle to the top stage of the kettle.When the discharge control doors at very stage of the kettle get closed automatically,feed the pressing cage with the cooked flakes.As a general rule,Layer of flakes Deposited should have the Following heights:

 

60-70% for he top stage

50-60% for the middle stage.

40% for the bottom stage

 

 In the beginning ,feed the pressing cage with a slight quantity of the cooked flakes. Afterwards, the feeding flakes should be adjusted in a gradually increasing quantity.If the  pressed cake is not in the shape of a tile,lead some steam direct into the bottom stage of the kettle.When the temperature of the pressing cage has been heated up,the cake thickness can be adjusted to about 10mm in several short stops of the machine.The residual oil content in cake in starting operation is higher,and it can be taken back to steaming kettle for repressing.After the process of oil extractions has come to normal,open the valve of oil spraying pipe above the pressing cage and let cold oil remove the foots.

The conditions of normal operation are as follows,the temperature of cooked flakes feeding into pressing cage,below 110°Cmoisture content,around 2%;load of electric motor,55 amperes;the location of outflow for oil,between 1st section and 2nd section of the cage bars;pressed cake,tile shaped,solid and slightly resilient,and with smooth,oil spotless inner surface as well as finely cracked of foots,between the 2nd section and 3rd section of cage bars.

 

B. Operation

   During operationthe following conditions should be observed from time to time,normally,the load the electric motor ,the conditions of feeding,cake,oil and foots,the flakes deposited height in the kettle, the steam pressure,and all the lubrication points.The relationship with other workshops should always be kept.

   When the heated flakes gets too dry following abnormal phenomena might happen:

(1) Cake at the discharge end can’t be tile shapes and becomes broken.

 

 

(2) The electric motor turns overloaded.

(3) The main locations of outflow for the oil begin to shift to the cake discharge end. The output of oil becomes reduced,and the oil is of a dark-brown colour.

 

   Should the above abnormality be allowed to last long,the machine will be subject to heavy damage .To remedy this ,it si necessary to turn down the discharge door at once,reduce the quantity of feeding into the pressing cage and lower the steam pressure in the kettle jacket.Meantime introduce some seam direct into the bottom stage of the kettle.If necessary,feed the inlet hopper with uncooked flakes and heighten the moisture the moisture content of the flakes to be discharged from the auxiliary kettle.By so doing,the machine will gradually lower its load and by subsequent readjustment,it will again turn normal.

   If the temperature of the heated flakes is relatively low while their moisture contents are relatively high,the following abnormalities might possibly occur:

 

(1) The machine sometimes admits no feeding at all or takes a little feeding,because the stuff sticks to the worn shaft and rotates together with the latter.

(2) The cake discharged becomes loose and soft and has a thick water vapour,looks oily and rotates together with the worm shaft by the time it takes form at the cake discharge end.

(3) The load of the motor goes down.

(4) The output of oil becomes lessened.The oil turns white in colour and is foaming.The main locations of outflow for the oil take to shift in the direction of the feed head.

To remedy the above defaults,it is permitted to gradually raise the steam pressure in the kettle jacket and adjust the moisture content of the flakes to be discharged from the auxiliary kettle.By so doing, the machine will turn normally by little and little.
